Charli XCX's Acting Debut in New Mockumentary "The Moment"

Charli XCX, the British pop star known for her unique style and innovative music, is stepping into a new role as an actor. Her latest project, a mockumentary titled The Moment, is set to release in the US on January 30. The film features a stellar cast including Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, and notably, Kylie Jenner, who will make her acting debut in this upcoming film. The movie explores the life of a pop star preparing for her first arena tour, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment industry.

Charli XCX has long been passionate about cinema. Her humorous reviews on Letterboxd gained widespread attention in 2024, leading her to transition from film critic to actress. She appeared in two films released in 2025—Erupcja and Sacrifice—and now stars in The Moment, which delves into the complexities of life in the spotlight. The film, produced by A24, premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 23, generating significant buzz among fans and critics alike.

A24, known for producing critically acclaimed films such as Materialists, Marty Supreme, and the highly anticipated Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, released the official trailer for The Moment in December 2025. The trailer gave a glimpse into Charli’s journey as she prepares for her Brat tour, with Deadline describing the film as a mockumentary that peels back the curtain on the machinery of fame.

Directed by Aidan Zamiri and co-written with Bertie Brandes, The Moment was inspired by an original concept from Charli XCX herself. The film also features a diverse cast, including Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Richard Perez, Isaac Powell, Rish Shah, Tish Weinstock, and Michael Workeye. Charli’s close collaborators Shygirl and A.G. Cook are also part of the project, with A.G. Cook composing the film’s score.

In a Variety interview last August, Charli XCX expressed her excitement about her acting career. “I am really enjoying my acting journey,” she said. “I feel very, very inspired at the moment in that field, I feel unbelievably creative, and I only ever want to do things that inspire me and make me feel energised.”

During a November 2025 interview with Vanity Fair, she provided more insight into the film, calling it a “2024 period piece.” “It's not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one. It's fiction, but it's the realest depiction of the music industry that I've ever seen,” she added. Charli also described her character as “sort of a hell version of myself.”

With its unique blend of humor, drama, and authenticity, The Moment promises to be a standout film. As Charli XCX continues to explore new creative avenues, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of this groundbreaking project. The film is expected to offer a fresh perspective on the world of pop stardom, blending real-life experiences with fictional storytelling.
