Spanish fans turn on YouTuber as ex invades his turf with new food channel

A New Chapter for Angela McColl
Angela McColl, a former spouse of Spanian, has taken her first step into the world of food reviewing with a video that has already captured the attention of many. Her authentic and relatable approach has resonated with fans, who are applauding her efforts as something refreshing in a space often dominated by polished content.
The 37-year-old shared a video of her visit to the Sydney Fish Market on Friday, which quickly gained over 260,000 views within just two days of being uploaded. This marks the beginning of her new venture in the food review industry, where she now competes with her ex-husband, Spanian, whose real name is Anthony Lees. Their marriage lasted two years before they parted ways in 2025.
McColl's channel, which currently boasts 30,000 subscribers, is gaining traction as she ventures into a field that her ex has successfully navigated with his YouTube series 'It's All Eats,' which has over 1.2 million followers. Interestingly, McColl's first review was released just days after Spanian posted a video comparing a $10 seafood meal to an $800 one, suggesting a strategic move to capture attention.
"I am so excited to be doing this," McColl said, adding, "I am a little bit nervous. I'm not going to lie." In her video, she reviewed several dishes, including Sydney Rock Oysters, a raw sashimi platter, and the market's famous lobster rolls.
Viewers have praised McColl for her authenticity, highlighting that her content feels genuine and unpolished. One viewer noted, "This is honestly so refreshing. No over-polishing, no fake energy - just raw, natural talent and real personality." Another added, "You can tell this is 100 per cent you, and that's exactly what makes it relatable. People are tired of perfect."
Some commenters have also taken aim at Spanian, expressing that his channel has lost its original charm. One wrote, "People are a little tired of the ex, beating his chest about the G Wagon, superiority complex, and need for validation from others." Another remarked, "It's embarrassing to watch sometimes. He's like a child."
Despite the criticism, McColl has received positive feedback from viewers who appreciate her humility and authenticity. One said, "She is more real/ authentic. No one likes a big head, full of themselves constantly needing validation." Another commented, "Her ex will one day be a little embarrassed of his mindset in his 30s."
McColl’s debut video came shortly after Spanian posted his own review, where he compared a $10 seafood meal to a $60 one and an $800 experience. In his review, he visited three different seafood spots, showcasing a range of dining options from a humble fish burger to an extravagant seafood platter.
Earlier this month, McColl revealed her plans to launch a food review channel, stating she was going to "shoot her shot" and see how it would go. She mentioned, "I'm actually really funny, that sounds cocky saying that, but I'm kinda funny." She also expressed that viewers would see her personality in the videos.
The new Sydney Fish Market is set to open on Monday, with visitor numbers expected to double to more than six million as it moves to a striking new harbourside location on Blackwattle Bay. Sydney Fish Market CEO Daniel Jarosch described the move as "the end of an era and the beginning of something extraordinary," emphasizing that the new market has been decades in the making.
The new market will feature more than 40 retailers, diverse dining options, and immersive visitor experiences, promising a fresh start for both the market and those who visit it.
