Minister Highlights APC's Expansion and Infrastructure Development in Rivers State

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo (SAN), recently made a significant statement regarding the political landscape in Nigeria. He emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had made a major gain by welcoming Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara into the party. This move was seen as a strategic victory for the APC, particularly in the South-South region.

During an event in Rivers State, Keyamo inaugurated the Igwuruta-Airport Road and flagged off the bypass to the Airport and Tollgate. The governor, who joined the APC, was welcomed with enthusiasm, and Keyamo described the moment as a significant milestone for the party.

Keyamo remarked, “I won’t conclude without warmly welcoming the latest catch in APC. We set a trap to catch a frog, but we caught an elephant in the person of Sir Siminalayi Fubara.” He highlighted the importance of the governor’s decision to join the party, calling it a big family and the largest in Africa.

The minister also praised President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s leadership, which he believes has made the APC attractive to the South-South region. He noted that under Tinubu’s leadership, the South-South has experienced unprecedented growth, with the APC achieving six wins out of six in the region. This marks a significant shift from previous years when the region was traditionally aligned with opposition parties.

Keyamo acknowledged the challenges faced by the aviation industry, particularly the poor condition of the road leading to Port Harcourt Airport. He stated that the governor’s initiative to improve the road would not only enhance the city’s image but also boost commercial activities in the area. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts, stating that the community would now see the improvements made.

In his remarks, Governor Fubara shared his excitement about joining the APC and receiving the membership card, which he proudly referred to as number 001. He emphasized his commitment to supporting President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 election, declaring that they would work together to ensure a smooth process.

Fubara also addressed the recent protests by the local community, which had disrupted airport operations. He explained that his government took immediate action to resolve the issues, including activating a health center and providing electricity to the community. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the state and federal authorities to address such challenges.

The governor highlighted the significance of the new road project, which aims to create a bypass for the community, reducing congestion and improving access. He mentioned that the project would span over 19.3 kilometers, with the first phase covering 7.1 kilometers. The road is expected to be completed within eight months, after which the old road will be tolled.

Fubara emphasized the need for joint efforts between the state and federal governments to address issues affecting the people. He expressed confidence that the projects would bring development and improve the quality of life for the residents of Ipo and Igwuruta communities.

Overall, the events in Rivers State underscore the growing cooperation between the APC and the state government, with a focus on infrastructure development and political unity. The initiatives are expected to have a lasting impact on the region, promoting economic growth and enhancing the image of Rivers State.
