A Thought on Microsoft’s Leadership and AI in Gaming
It's fascinating to think that Satya Nadella, the head of a $4 trillion company, is responsible for thousands of jobs and is one of the most influential people in the tech world. However, when he speaks, it often sounds like he's trying to sound knowledgeable without really understanding what he's talking about. I don't believe he has much of an interest in games, and I'm not sure he fully grasps how AI works. His recent interview was so vague that it could have meant anything from a new game to an attempt at creating a version of TikTok.
The issue is that Microsoft owns so many developers now, and they're all using AI. This is going to start influencing our games soon. I hope you like your art to be illogical, with six-fingered characters and impossible architecture, and NPCs that speak nonsense because their dialogue was written by AI. If AI is used for anything important, it could make video games worse. Microsoft might even try to make an entire game with AI, which would likely result in a chaotic mess. Interestingly, the Take-Two boss seems to be the only one who understands this and is willing to speak out against it. Maybe he should be in charge of Xbox instead.
The Take-Two Boss and AI: A Rare Voice of Reason
I’m genuinely shocked at how much sense the Take-Two boss is making when talking about AI. I haven’t heard any other executives who understand it as well or are willing to speak the truth. It's refreshing to hear someone who recognizes the potential dangers of AI in gaming.

EA and AI: A Contrasting Approach
I’m confused about why a company like EA, which isn’t connected to Microsoft, is investing heavily in AI, while the makers of GTA 6, who could benefit from AI for minor details, aren’t. The Microsoft execs sound half-crazed when they talk about AI, while the Take-Two boss sounds completely sane. I think he's right. I feel this is just the calm before the storm. Once companies start using AI for games and ads, the quality will become unavoidable. People might either rebel or accept it, leading to a future filled with AI-generated content.
Battlefield: Redsec and Player Expectations
I see people complaining about Battlefield: Redsec, but I don’t get it. They’re upset that the skins are too unrealistic and that you have to do side quests. How do they think the game is going to be funded? I hate to defend EA, but if you're playing a top-quality game for free, including online access, the option for slightly unusual skins is something to accept. And the side quest stuff? So what did you expect? Just a plain vanilla battle royale with nothing new? Most people probably don’t want anything out of the ordinary. They just want what they're used to and will complain if they don't get it, even if they didn’t pay a penny.
A Birthday Celebration for Fallout 3
I’ve seen some posts celebrating the 17th anniversary of Fallout 3. I believe the game was released slightly later in the UK. I still have my original PS3 copy, which I bought new. Even though it kept crashing and freezing, I thought the game was fantastic. Fallout 3 consumed hours of my time as I explored the Capital Wasteland. Well done to Bethesda and everyone who worked on the game. What a classic!
Ball x Pit: Understanding the Game Mechanics
I have a few questions about Ball x Pit. First, what's the difference between normal and fast mode on the character select screen? Second, what's the advantage of completing each level with different characters? And generally, what do harvesting materials do and how does it help in the game? I’m sure there are more questions, so feel free to ask.
Metal Gear in Concert: Memorable Music from the Series
This Saturday, November 1st, is the Metal Gear in Concert at the Royal Albert Hall. In the spirit of that event, I thought I'd list some of the best songs that created memorable scenes in the games.
- Metal Gear Solid 1: "Enclosure" plays during the death of Sniper Wolf and Meryl. It enhances the legend of Big Boss with great monologues.
- Metal Gear Solid 2: "Who Am I Really?" is played after Raiden defeats Solidus Snake. It features a powerful speech about identity.
- Metal Gear Solid 3: "Debriefing" highlights Eva's betrayal and her monologue about The Boss.
- Metal Gear Solid 4: "Sorrow" connects the player with Old Snake's emotions and the release of the Patriots.
- Metal Gear Solid 5: "Behind the Mirror" reveals the truth and ties the series together.
Honorable mentions include the Death of Elisa/Ursula scene from Portable Ops and the Peace Walker mission featuring "Heavens Divide."
Console Wars and Future Gaming
I'm glad to see that the console wars between Americans' GameStop and Trump have ended. Now, Xbox games are available on PlayStation, and I can't wait for Spider-Man and God of War to come to Xbox. But I doubt it'll happen, as Sony isn't that desperate.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: A Unique Experience
I'm thoroughly enjoying the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. It's a quick game that becomes addictive over time. The fourth game is especially engaging, offering a mix of strategy and suspense. The retro daytime hours and basic graphics add depth to the story, while the iconic phone guy's voice sets the atmosphere perfectly. The animatronics have become famous characters, and the Easter eggs keep the experience fresh.
Sales and Survival of Game Studios
Alan Wake 2 selling 2 million copies is tragic. I'm worried about Remedy's future. None of their games have been big hits, and Max Payne was their biggest success. The remakes may be their last chance.
Shantae 7 being made by WayForward is exciting, although I wish they'd return to pixel art.
