Unlocking Verdania in Hollow Knight: Silksong
Verdania is one of the most intricate and mysterious regions in Hollow Knight: Silksong. It's not something you can easily stumble upon, and it requires a series of steps to reach. The area is entirely optional, but for those who want to explore its depths, there are several key milestones to complete before you can even step foot in it.
To unlock Verdania, you must first be in Act 3. This means that you'll need to progress through the game's main story until you're ready to move on to the third act. However, there are also some additional tasks that need to be completed before Verdania becomes accessible.
One of the most important parts of this journey involves the Green Prince, a mysterious grasshopper (or possibly a cricket) who plays a significant role in the story. His path is intertwined with the unlocking of Verdania, so it’s essential to follow his quest carefully.
Steps to Unlock Verdania
Rescue the Green Prince from Sinner’s Road
The first step in this process is to rescue the Green Prince from his cell in Sinner’s Road. To get there, you’ll need to head to Greymoor and find the entrance to Sinner’s Road. This is located directly above the Halfway House. You’ll have to climb a large building on the left side of Greymoor, which has the Chapel of the Reaper at the top. From there, head right along the upper walkway to unlock the lift back down to the Halfway House.
Once you’re inside Sinner’s Road, go right through the initial chamber and into the main shaft. The Green Prince will be up and to your left, though you’ll have to drop down to reach him. If you don’t have a Simple Key, you can find another one in Sinner’s Road. Climb the hanging cage room to your right, then proceed along the corridor at the top of the shaft. You’ll encounter a Roachkeeper miniboss, and defeating it will reward you with the key you need.
Meet the Green Prince in the Choral Chambers
Once you’ve reached Act 2, you can meet the Green Prince in the lower left side of the Choral Chambers. This location is just to the left of the Citadel Spa and down the shaft from the entrance to The Slab. This is a brief encounter, but it's crucial for moving the Green Prince forward in his journey.
Beat the Cogwork Dancers and Meet the Green Prince Again
The next step involves defeating the Cogwork Dancers boss, which is located at the top of the Choral Chambers. Beating this boss is necessary to progress the main quest. Afterward, return to the arena and hop up onto the left side entrance to find the Green Prince examining one of the automatons. Speaking to him completes the tasks you can do in Act 2 to help unlock Verdania.
Progress to the Next Act and Complete the Dark Below Quest
After unlocking Act 3, you’ll be able to access the regular version of Verdania, which is located to the right of Craw Lake in Greymoor. This area doesn't have much to offer except for a mourning Green Prince. However, to unlock the true version of Verdania—Lost Verdania—you’ll need to continue progressing through the main quest.
Head to Bone Bottom Chapel and proceed to the Deep Docks. There, you’ll need to unlock the diving bell by speaking to Forge Daughter and Ballow. Then, use the Simple Key to open the door and find the route. Once you've explored The Abyss, return to Bone Bottom Chapel, where you'll learn the Elegy of the Deep on your Needolin.
Now, return to the Green Prince and play the song on your Needolin while he's standing nearby. This will allow you to enter his memories and unlock Lost Verdania, the full version of the area map.
