Empowering the Community Through Health Education

Feel Great Alabama is set to host a free community health event in Huntsville on Saturday, September 13th. This event aims to provide individuals with science-backed tools to manage and improve their health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, migraines, and more. The initiative is designed to help people take control of their health through natural and sustainable methods.

Dr. Tiffany Marie Hendricks, a physician, speaker, and metabolic health consultant, and Yvette Oxford, a nurse, diabetes educator, and entrepreneur, have been vocal about the importance of this event. Their goal is to educate the community on the root causes of health issues and encourage lifestyle changes that promote long-term well-being.

Dr. Hendricks became board-certified in lifestyle medicine with a focus on addressing the underlying causes of health conditions through stress management, nutrition, and physical activity. She emphasizes the need to shift away from over-reliance on prescription medications and instead focus on natural remedies. Oxford, who has experience caring for her sick mother and working as a massage therapist for the Olympics, noticed that when people understand the root of their health problems, they often see significant improvements.

They have observed positive changes in people ranging from 9-year-olds to 77-year-olds after identifying the root causes of their health conditions and making necessary life changes. Together, they aim to help people find solutions without outsourcing their care. Oxford highlights the importance of reeducating individuals who may have been misinformed about their health.

“I really want people to feel empowered. I want people to feel educated, I want them to walk away with actionable tools to take back control of their health,” Dr. Hendricks said. She believes that when people are given the right information, they can become active participants in their healthcare journey.

Oxford adds, “We’re teaching you to take control of yourself. No more about what you’re going in for. In other words, know your disease process more than [the doctor] does so you can take back control.” This approach empowers individuals to ask the right questions and work collaboratively with their healthcare providers.

The event will feature a panel discussion with Oxford and Titus Unlimited, a health and wellness advocate, fitness icon, and member of the Silver Fox Squad. This session will inspire attendees to embrace a healthy lifestyle at any age. The second hour will focus on insulin resistance and the tools available to address it, along with healthy lifestyle changes.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the speakers. The event will provide resources and strategies to help manage various health conditions, including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high triglycerides, PCOS, fatty liver disease, and migraines.

Dr. Hendricks and Oxford emphasize that insulin resistance is a key factor in many health conditions. They explain that understanding this issue can lead to better management of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s, which is now referred to as type 3 diabetes.

By attending the event, individuals will gain knowledge that can help them ask the right questions and work effectively with their healthcare providers. Oxford encourages people to take charge of their health by understanding their conditions before leaving the doctor's office.

The event is open to anyone interested in learning natural ways to heal and improve their health. From athletes to the elderly, it is suitable for all ages. As Oxford states, “This event is for any human with cells.”

Dr. Hendricks and Oxford hope that attendees will make small but meaningful changes to their lifestyles. They believe that consistency and gradual progress are essential for long-term success. “Many small changes add up very fast. Consistency is the key. It’s not a race, it’s a marathon,” Oxford said.

They also encourage individuals to commit to at least one change immediately. “I want people to say, ‘Yes! I’m going to make at least one of these changes today,’” Dr. Hendricks added.

The Feel Great Alabama Community Health Event is free to attend and will take place on Saturday, September 13th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Huntsville Marriott at the Space and Rocket Center. Seating is limited, so registration is encouraged. For more information, visit the event's website or connect with Dr. Hendricks and Yvette Oxford through their social media platforms.
