Emily Simpson Updates on Luke's Back-to-School Journey

Emily Simpson Shares Exciting Update on Her Son Luke’s New School Adventure
Emily Simpson, known for her role on The Real Housewives of Orange County, recently shared a heartwarming update about her son, Luke Simpson. The 10-year-old twin is preparing for a new chapter in his life as he begins what Emily described as “a new school” in an Instagram Story posted on September 9. The post featured a red-heart emoji and showed the mother and son smiling together in front of the learning center. Luke looked stylish with a black backpack and red Nike shoes, while Emily, dressed in black leggings and a sporty white crop top, appeared confident and proud.
This update comes at a time when Emily and her husband, Shane Simpson, have been open about Luke’s challenges, particularly during RHOC Season 19. In a July 17 appearance on Single SparkleHQ, Emily shared how her son has been doing. She mentioned that some of the “stress had been eliminated” during the summer break. However, she expressed concerns about what will happen when school resumes. “Now the real issue is, once he goes back to school, or I go back to filming, can we still navigate it? Is he still going to get better? Are we going to go back, and is he going to regress? That’s what worries me,” she said.
Understanding Luke’s Health Struggles
Emily has also shared details about Luke’s health issues, which began when what was initially thought to be “picky eating” turned into a more serious problem. As she explained to Shane on the season premiere, “We have to be more accommodating and lenient when it comes to him because he doesn’t process the idea of eating like we do. But the problem with him not eating anything is that I know he gets low energy. … It affects his mood, but then he doesn’t make that connection that it affects his mood.”
In addition to his eating habits, Emily noted that Luke was “susceptible to smells.” After working with a therapist, she discovered that autism might explain some of his behaviors. “Intense” testing by a specialist could confirm or deny this, she added. “The therapist told me that the eating disorder is very common with the autism … and basically, what we learn from that is where he lies [on the spectrum],” Emily said.
Differing Parenting Styles
Emily and Shane have taken different approaches to supporting Luke. Emily described herself as “more of the nurturing parent,” while Shane is “not as warm and fuzzy,” instead being “more of the pragmatic kind of dad.” This difference in style came to light during an emotional conversation on RHOC Season 19, Episode 7, when Shane asked, “Why do you get frustrated? It is what it is. There's nothing we can do about it. We just work around it.”
After Emily suggested that Luke might be autistic and that he “doesn’t think and function like other children do,” Shane stood firm in his perspective. “I could still smile and still help him and still be positive. Which do you want me to do? ... As if you care and I don't care,” he continued. “You make it stressful for yourself. You make it more difficult for yourself.”
Despite their differing views, Emily and Shane remain united in their commitment to Luke. Their relationship continues to evolve as they navigate the challenges of raising a child with unique needs.
A Growing Connection with Fans
Emily has also been sharing more personal moments with her fans, including a recent photo of herself with Luke and his brother, Keller, on December 25, 2023, in Laguna Niguel, California. The image, posted on Instagram, highlights the family’s bond and their shared experiences.
As Emily and Shane continue to support Luke, their journey offers valuable insights into parenting, resilience, and the importance of understanding and acceptance. Whether through their reality TV appearances or personal updates, the couple remains a source of inspiration for many.
