The Late Richard Simmons’s Longtime Los Angeles Estate Lists for $7 Million
One year after his death, the longtime Los Angeles estate of Richard Simmons has landed on the market for $7 million, Realtor.com reports. The fitness icon and media personality bought the 1937 Neoclassical Revival Colonial–style home in the 1980s and maintained it as his primary residence until his July 2024 death at the age of 76. Perched above the Sunset Strip, the 4,119-square-foot main house shares its half-acre plot with a gated motor court, a front portico lined with neatly trimmed hedges and topiaries, a detached two-car garage, a keyhole-shaped swimming pool, and a poolhouse .
Beyond the abode’s stately columns, a sunny entry hall greets guests with a direct line of sight to the back patio , which is accessed via floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The bones are certainly there—though the home’s buyer might have some updating to do, depending on their tastes. The retro aesthetic spirit of the ’80s lives on throughout the home, from the purple geometric-patterned walkways inlaid into the hardwood flooring to a winding carpeted staircase lined with a cherub mural, metallic spheres, and a chrome handrail.

The two-story primary suite is outfitted in plush lavender carpet and sky murals across the ceiling. It’s kitted out with a dressing room, a spacious bathroom (with more cherub murals), private balconies, a fireplace, and an upper level gym . In total, there are four bedrooms and five bathrooms.
Simmons stepped away from the public eye in the 2010s, prompting rumors that something was amiss, though the exercise guru hinted that he was simply enjoying his retirement in a January 2024 Facebook post. “Don’t believe everything you read. I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful,” the Sweatin’ to the Oldies star wrote in reference to rumors about an upcoming biopic.
The day before his death, People published Simmons’s final interview to celebrate his 76th birthday. “I feel good! I am grateful that I’m here, that I am alive for another day,” he told the outlet. “I’ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people.”
