While Reneé Rapp gears up to release her highly anticipated sophomore album Bite Me , she’s more than happy to share the spotlight. In fact, she encourages it — and in a new Instagram post on her second account @goodtitsbigheart , Rapp specifically told her fans to check out lesbian artists of color.

“good news btw there are black and brown lesbian artists that you should/can redirect your attention & admiration to look up to!! not just us white girls!!” Rapp wrote in her post’s caption . “kehlani is right there!! she’s actually, been right there!! syd has BEEN there!! hayley kiyoko is right there!! cat burns is also- say it with me- right there!! believe you me, the lesbians are plentiful!! let’s lock in girls!!”

Beyond the artists Rapp shouted out — who, in case you missed them, include Kehlani , Syd , Hayley Kiyoki , and Cat Burns — fans in her comments section shouted out plenty of other lesbian artists of color that deserve more recognition, including Orion Sun , Arlo Parks , Joy Oladokun , Young Miko , Gigi Perez , and KWN . That’s at least 10 new artists to add to your library, if you weren’t streaming them already.

In a comment, Rapp expanded on her reasoning for making the post. “this is more to highlight that white lesbians aren’t always center of the conversation so how about people take their disappointment or confused feelings and redirect that to non-white lesbians,” she wrote.

What “disappointment or confused feelings” is Rapp referring to? It’s possible she’s referencing the latest single from Fletcher, long hailed by fans as a lesbian icon, who announced via her new song “Boy” that she kissed, fell in love, and is now dating a man. Fletcher, of course, is entitled to date whoever she pleases, but many of her lesbian fans expressed disappointment online that an artist they loved no longer seemed to identify with their community.

Fletcher, for her part, said in a new interview with Them that she’s “always identified as queer” and still does.

“All of my romantic relationships over the last 10 years have been with women, so it’s what I’ve written my music about,” Fletcher explained. The most beautiful thing about sexuality is that it gets to be self-defined.”

“Even if somebody did identify a specific way for a very long time, you’re allowed to evolve, you’re allowed to grow, you’re allowed to change,” she added. “That’s something that I would love to see more grace for in the community.”
