Mother recounts catching baby's father trying to suffocate 2-month-old

The mother of a 2-month-old baby is sharing the terrifying moment she caught her child's father trying to suffocate the baby boy.
The baby's mother, Alexandria Wright, spoke exclusively with WPBF Reporter Rachael Perry on how her motherly instincts may have saved her child's life.
Sign up for our NewslettersWright is a mother of two, including a baby boy named Alexander. She said a few weeks ago, she was doing dishes when she saw her son's father, Estil Gedeon, squeeze Alexander's nose.
"I asked him, like, what are you doing? And he gaslighted me and was like, I'm fixing his bottle, but my stomach was already turned from what I had already seen," Wright said.

She said she had a gut feeling that something more was going on. Roughly 24 hours later, she got a call from a friend to help her with something. Wright said before she walked outside, she decided to set up her phone in their bedroom to record Gedeon and their son.

"Then, when I came back, I saw he made his own video. He deleted my video at first and made his own video. So, the video I let you watch, that wasn't there at first," she said.
She said Gedeon deleted the video she had started and attempted to cover that up by starting his own video in its place.
Wright had the idea to check her recently deleted folder on her phone, where she was able to recover the video.
WPBF 25 News was able to view the video and decided against showing it due to how disturbing it is.
In the video captured on her iPhone, Gedeon is seen sitting at the foot of the bed while the baby was sleeping. The recording shows him covering the infant's nose with his hands seven times, causing the child to foam at the mouth and raise his hands in distress.

Wright said Gedeon only stopped after realizing he was being recorded.
"I wanted to cry. I wanted to put my hands on him because it's like, why would you do that to a baby? Like a baby that was just born, innocent, can't talk, can't make you mad," she said.
She waited a few hours until she felt safe to leave and packed a bag for her and Alexander.
She left and called the police to report what happened and show them the video.
The child's father, Gedeon, was arrested and charged with attempted premeditated murder in the first degree.
Wright said she's still trying to comprehend why he would do this and said Gedeon had even expressed being excited about being a dad.
"That's the crazy part about this situation because I miscarried a month before I found out I was pregnant again. So, this is our rainbow baby that he tried to do this to," she said.
After she gave birth to Alexander, she said the nurses gave him to Gedeon while she was recovering from surgery.
"They gave him the baby, and he went with the baby for about, like, almost an hour till I got to the room. So that's even sickening just to know that I left you alone with the baby, but ain't no telling how long you've been doing that," Wright told WPBF.
She said Alexander is the best baby boy and can't fathom someone wanting to hurt him.
"He's giggly. He just started laughing and stuff this month, but he's always been smiling," she added.
Wright said she worries that when Alexander gets older, he will ask about his dad.
"I just want him to know, and just to like, understand, and know that I got him out of that situation, and know that I did it for the best, and know that if he wanted to have a relationship with him, that's at his own risk, once he gets older, to the point he can make his own decisions, but I'm gonna always warn him that I don't trust him," she said.
She is hopeful that justice will be served and that her child won't be in danger going forward.
Wright now wants to warn other mothers to be careful who they trust, even with someone they feel is trustworthy.
"Don't be afraid to get up out of it because it's not easy getting up out of it, but if you're willing to do it, it's definitely possible. Don't be afraid to talk to the police, they're willing to help. Don't beat yourself up about it if you do decide to do it just because you love somebody, because you could love somebody, I know I could love somebody, but I don't love anybody more than I love my kids. That's what God put me on earth for, to provide and protect them, so they go before anybody," Wright said.
Wright said moving past this incident, she wants to use her platform to shed light on postpartum depression after having a hard pregnancy and let other moms know they aren't alone.
"Postpartum depression is real. So I would love for you guys to check on your loved ones that have babies. See if they need help, even if they say they don't, you'll never know," she said.
Wright said Alexander is healthy, and she hopes they can move closer to loved ones once this is all over.
