Jonathan Van Ness celebrates five years of marriage with husband Mark Peacock
Queer Eye presenter Jonathan Van Ness and husband Mark Peacock celebrated their fifth marriage anniversary yesterday.
The two men secretly married in a small ceremony in the middle of 2020. Van Ness, who uses they/he/she pronouns, didn’t make the news public until New Year’s Eve that year when they shared some of their 2020 highlights with followers. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t seem quite so long ago!
Both Van Ness and Peacock posted about the anniversary on their social media.

Van Ness posted photos with Peacock and a caption saying, “Married for 5 years today “
On Instagram, among those to congratulate the couple were Johnny Sibilly and fellow Queer Eye presenter Tan France.

Peacock posted a reel of photos from their lives together over the last five years. The soundtrack was “Golden” by Harry Styles.
Meeting and dating
In early 2021, Van Ness revealed more about their whirlwind romance with Peacock. Van Ness, 37, said they’d met Peacock during a comedy tour to London. Given that Van Ness was in the UK in October 2019 as part of their ‘Road to Beijing’ tour, and the two started commenting on each other’s Instagram posts around this time, it’s likely this was when the two met.
“We went on a date in London, which turned into more dates whilst I was on a comedy tour,” says Van Ness. “At the end of that time, I was taking my mom, aunt & friends on a mini break to Amsterdam. I wanted @marklondon to come with but, was it a bit intense to ask Mark to come after a couple weeks worth’s of dates to come meet my mom & and friends on a mini break?
“Maybe so,” continues Van Ness. “But something about Mark felt different and I’m quite sure he felt the same ”
New book
Besides co-presenting Queer Eye , which dropped its ninth season late last year, Van Ness also has their own brand of hair products.
They’ve also just released a new book. Co-authored with Julie Murphy, Let Them Stare is aimed at young adults. It follows 18-year-old, gender-nonconforming Sully, who is ready to flee their small town for a fashion internship. However, when that falls through, a desperate Sully finds support from an unexpected source: the ghost of Rufus, a drag performer from the fifties with no memory of how he died.
Van Ness has recently shared some photos of their younger self and explained they wrote Let Them Stare for the kid they once were.
