WIAA track and field: Central Wisconsin track stars make presence felt on Day 1

LA CROSSE - Central Wisconsin’s high school track stars made their presence felt on Day 1 of the WIAA state track and field championships on Friday, June 6 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

Many area athletes walked away with medals after defining performances, while other performances were validated with qualifications to compete in Day 2's events for a medal.

Here is a look at how the athletes around the area fared at the peak of state track competition.

Division 1:

D.C. Everest's Elaina Kamke earned a Day 2 qualification with a top 10 finish in the 100-meter hurdles.

Wausau West’s Maci Heise earned a first-place finish in 300-meter hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter run earning Day 2 qualifications in both races.

Marshfield’s Ethan Knecht earned a fifth-place medal in the shot put throw.

Stevens Point’s Ethan Olds earned fifth place medal in the 1,600 race and teammate Cheyenne Cornell earned a sixth-place medal in the pole vault event.

Division 2:

Mosinee's Britt Fitzgerald will compete on Day 2 after earning a top 10 finish in the 400-meter dash.

Adams-Friendship’s Molly Johnson qualified to compete Saturday with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Medford’s Rivalee Stokes launched a discus throw worthy of a sixth-place medal and earned a qualification to compete in Saturday’s discus throw.

Division 3:

Stratford’s Jett Schoenherr earned a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash and an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash to qualify to compete on Day 2 for a medal. He was also a part of the relay team consisting of Carter Foster, Zander Zawislan, Coltan Breit, Austin O'Neil, and Mason Miller that qualified for Saturday, earning second place finish in the 4x100 meter relay. The Tiger group of Austin Niehaus, Connor Kreft, Kaden Foster and Zawislan also placed seventh in the 4x400.

Iola-Scandinavia's Aiden Bowen earned a Day 2 qualification with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash.

Rosholt’s Alex Wierzba qualified for two day two events with two top five placements. He earned a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash and a second place in the 400-meter dash.

Newman Catholic’s Nolyn Lindner won the 400-meter dash and qualified to compete on Day 2 for a medal.

Pacelli’s Luke Eiden walked away victorious with a third-place medal in the 1600-meter race.

Stratford's Brianna Sherden earned a qualification to compete at Day 2 with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash and was a part of the relay team consisting of Wynn Schoenherr, Dawnyel Martin and Lillian Kaiser that earned Day 2 qualification after finishing seventh in the 4x100 relay.

Ben Beck of Iola-Scandinavia earned a fourth-place medal in the 1,600 meters.

Edgar’s Tucker Streit earned two Day 2 qualifications with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles and a second-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles events. He was also a part of the group of Isaiah Kraft, Kennen Van Ornum and Ty Schnelle that placed eighth in the 4x400 meter relay.

Marathon’s Garrett Bracewell qualified for Day 2 with a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles event.

Auburndale’s Trevor Trowbridge earned a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles event and will compete on Day 2 for a medal.

Abbotsford’s Christian Fuentes earned a silver medal in the long jump event.

Marathon’s Chris Marcell broke the state meet record and won a first-place medal in the shot put event. His teammates Fred Tylinski, Bracewell, Brady Annis, Levi Krautkramer, Luke Hoenish and Logan Witberler earned a first-place finish in the 4x200 meter relay and will compete on Saturday for a medal. And the team of Brady Annis, Levi Krautkramer, Logan Rohland, Bracewell, Fred Tylinski and River Stanecki took first place in the 4x400 relay.

Edgar’s Austin Schreiber, Landon Lukasko, Caius Higgins, Ty Schnelle, Kennen Van Ornum and Eli Slack earned a second-place finish in the 4x200 meter relay and will compete for a medal on Day 2. And the Wildcats group of Schreiber, Lukasko, Slack and Schnelle will compete on Day 2 after finishing eighth in the 4x100.

Stratford’s relay group consisting of Carter Foster, Zander Zawislan, Coltan Breit, Brandon Knetter, Mason Miller and Austin Niehaus snatched a third-place finish in the 4x200 relay.

Assumption’s Bella Thomas won first place and qualified for Day 2 in both the 100-meter dash, winning by seven seconds, and also the 200-meter dash. Teammate Lucy Dolan earned a fifth-place medal in the 3,200-meter run.

Loyal’s Addysen Wolf notched a top five finish and Day 2 qualifications earning a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a fifth place in 200-meter dash.

Pittsville's Reese Grimm earned a Day 2 qualification with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Auburndale’s team of Alana Steines, Marti Anderson, Rose Hasenohrl, Luise Meyer, Gracie Hasenohrl and Alivia Wolf earned a third-place medal in the 4x800 meter relay.

Pacelli’s Emma Reincke earned a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash and will compete on Day 2 and was a part of the relay team consisting of Annie Vaughan, Natalie Cooper, Malaina Cashin that qualified in the 4x100 meter relay with a ninth-place finish.

Athens' Malaina Telschow earned a silver medal in the pole vault event and teammate Sy’Rih Hartwig notched a sixth-place medal in the discus throw.

Colby’s Daelyn Rieck earned a gold medal in the discus throw.

Rosholt’s relay team of Isabelle Trzebiatowski, Kaitlyn Dombrowski, Liliana Losinski, Marlee Krekling, Lia Kezeske and Aubree Dombrowski earned a Day 2 qualification with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.
