WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JUNE 6
No lyrics today, folks, ‘cause I’m choosing to celebrate nine years since I signed my contract here at Cageside Seats! It’s not quite nine years of liveblogging (that’s at the end of August), and I’ve been writing here more generally even longer, but June 6 has always been a special day to me in part because of that.
On with the show!
The show opens with footage of fans waiting outside the arena as commentary hypes the show.
The traditional montage of talent arriving at the arena follows.
Seth Rollins makes his entrance, flanked by Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and “Big” Bronson Reed.
Rollins gets on the mic and does his usual visionary bit before pointing at the Money in the Bank briefcase and saying he takes everything tomorrow now and he’ll have absolutely power over this entire industry. And that control will extend to SmackDown, so they’ve come here to deliver the message that anyone here that stands in their way will suffer the same fate as those who have stood in their way previously.
Sami Zayn, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, all of them gone, and Seth will drag all of us kicking and screaming into the future if he has to and nobody can stop him.
Enter Solo Sikoa, flanked by JC Mateo and “Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu.
They get in the ring and Solo asks if anybody that gets in their way is getting laid out, and Seth says that’s right. Sikoa asks if he said nobody would be here to stop them, and Rollins again gives the affirmative. Solo says they’re standing right here and by the looks of it, Seth has a little Bloodline right here.
He asks Bron Breakker if he’s supposed to be the Right Hand Man Jey Uso and if Bronson Reed is the Honorary Uce Sami Zayn. He gives Bronson guff for coming back and joining Seth after teaming with him at WarGames, and tells Paul Heyman long time, no see. Seth tells him to choose his next words carefully.
Solo says tomorrow he’s gonna win Money in the Bank and then all that power and control will be his. Rollins says he gets it, this is his turf and he feels threatened. Bron is the future of this industry and Bronson could squash him like a bug at the snap of Seth’s fingers, but what he really should be worried about is that his real family would rather stab him in the back than have his back.
Seth tells Jacob he looks like he has something to say and tries to cajole him into grabbing the mic and says maybe Samoan Werewolf isn’t working and he needs a new nickname like say Solo’s Bitch. But in all seriousness it took Sikoa a lot of guts to come down here, and he’ll be honest he’s threatened by one of them, and it ain’t Solo.
Fatu steps up to Rollins, Breakker steps up to Jacob, Seth backs down and says something in Bron’s ears and then he and his guys leave.
After they clear the ring, “Big” Jim Uso arrives and lays Solo and his boys out with superkicks! Solo tries to keep the peace and we go to break!
JC Mateo vs. “Big” Jim Uso
Back from commercial, match joined in progress, Mateo with a big belly-to-belly suplex on Uso! Getting Jim in the ropes, Solo Sikoa tells him it’s not too late to join up and JC slams him! Mateo grabs a reverse chinlock and grinds it in, Big Jim fights out with elbows but an axhandle clobbers him back down!
Uso fends him off to the floor with chops, suicide dive connects, gamengiri from the apron, Jim goes up top but Mateo blasts him back to the floor with a big dropkick that sends us to break.
Back from commercial, Mateo with a standing moonsault, no cover, corner uppercut, whip across, up and over, Jim with the Samoan drop! Leg-feed enzuigiri, JC staggered into the corner but still on his feet, chops, whip reversed, big back elbow, Uso Whisper in the Wind... SO CLOSE!
Whip reversed, JC catches him... JIM USO KICKS OUT OF TOUR OF THE ISLANDS! Whip to the corner, boot up, superkick, another one, a spear, Uso goes up top but hops back down when Jacob Fatu gets on the apron to run interference! Jim sidesteps a charge...
“Big” Jim Uso wins by pinfall with a schoolboy pin.
Zelina Vega confronts Giulia backstage to tell her that if she wants the title, she’s gonna have to pry it from her lifeless body. Giulia tells her she likes her and she walks off.
Chelsea Green and her Secret Hervice make their entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Jacob Fatu is walking backstage when Damian Priest runs into him.
Priest says what he’s going through, he’s been there and he doesn’t envy him, but man to man, face to face, he wants him to know that at some point he’s coming for the United States Championship. Jacob says that’s fine, but if he doesn’t take care of his business he’ll go right to the back of the line, yaddimean?
Piper Niven vs. Zelina Vega (Bakersfield Brawl)
Niven bowls Vega over, collar and elbow, Piper shoves her away and Zelina bails to the floor to regroup! Vega back in the fight with a kendo stick, walloping Niven! To the floor, wrecking ball dropkick, Zelina with a double stomp off the apron! Piper with a facebuster into the apron, follows it with a freight train crossbody into the LED boards and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Niven choking Vega with a chain to the mouth... AND SHE STOMPS HER FACE INTO THE TURNBUCKLES! Tornado DDT counters and puts Piper face-first into an opened steel chair! Orihara moonsault follows and wipes all the heels out on the floor! Zelina up top, Niven cuts her off with a big chop, climbs up with her, jockeying for position... AVALANCHE CODE RED CONNECTS BUT ALBA FYRE PULLS HER OFF THE PIN!
To the floor, Chelsea beats Vega down! Back inside, table set up, Niven up top but Giulia appears to wipe Green and Fyre out and even the odds! Kendo sticks to Piper, Zelina underneath her...
Zelina Vega wins by pinfall with a powerbomb through a table.
Post-match, Giulia raises a confused Zelina Vega’s hand before dropping her with a headbutt and hitting a northern lights bomb! The Beautiful Madness grabs the United States Championship and holds it high above Vega’s fallen body!
Cody Rhodes meets up with Jey Uso backstage and they’re quickly joined by Jim Uso. Everybody’s asking Jey if he’s okay and he’s a little confused about it, but he’s a champion and he’s gonna be okay and the only thing to worry about is what John Cena and Logan Paul will have to say. Other than that, worry about tomorrow tomorrow, yeet?
Aleister Black cuts a promo in a room full of candles.
He talks about LA Knight stealing the pin from him and the longer he thinks about it, the more he thinks that Knight has stolen something and it doesn’t sit right with him, so now he wants to take away all of his security in a singles match. But if LA beats him, he will look him in the eyes, shake his hands, and admit defeat.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, LA Knight makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He says it’s that time of year again, Money in the Bank season, and if you think about it and do a little bit of math, it’s his third year in a row of being in Money in the Bank, and the third time’s the charm but he’s not satisfied with that because he looks at the other five guys— Penta, we know we like him a little bit and he’s gonna do everything to reach up and grab the case.
Andrade, we like him a little bit too, and he’s also gonna do whatever it takes, everybody in the match is gonna do what ever it takes, but after those two that we can maybe respect a little bit, then we get to the goon side of things. We get to El Grande Americano Gable, Solo Sikoa, who he’s happy to drop on his head one more time, and he thinks about dummy number three, a guy who he hasn’t had much interaction with, Seth Rollins.
There’s nothin’ hotter than LA Knight in LA and Seth ain’t gonna burn a damn thing down because he’s getting burned by Knight, yeah. And that brings him to his match tonight against Aleister Black and he gets it, Money in the Bank is a big deal and he gets why Al got hurt by his “stolen” pin but all he’s done is set himself up to get his feelings hurt one more time.
Aleister Black makes his entrance to send us to break.
Aleister Black vs. LA Knight
Collar and elbow, struggling around the ring with vigor, side headlock, shot off and Knight puts boots to him! Back and forth, Black off the ropes and he runs right into a lariat for one! Al with a legsweep and a sliding knee but he goes for a springboard, LA intervenes, and both men crash to the floor to send us to break!
Back from commercial, I’m late getting back to my seat but the match carries on for a bit and soon enough Seth Rollins shows up and hits Blackout on LA Knight...
LA Knight wins by disqualification.
Post-match, Seth charges in for another but Aleister Black gets in his way! Rollins backs off but Bron Breakker slides in and spears Black! Seth throws him out of the ring and Bronson Reed appears to hit a senton on Knight! Breakker spears him too!
We get a video of Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis making a join announcement about King and Queen of the Ring, starting next week with four-way qualifying matches feeding into semifinals and finals in Saudi Arabia at the end of the month, with the tournament winners getting title shots at SummerSlam.
Jade Cargill is interviewed backstage.
She says it feels great to have a chance in Queen of the Ring and she’s gonna tear through it and win the whole deal and then taking gold at SummerSlam.
Charlotte Flair rolls up to tell her salt and sugar look the same, so choose your friends wisely orr don’t have any friends at all, and as far as Queen of the Ring goes, there’s only one Queen in WWE.
Tiffany Stratton rolls up and the camera follows her to break.
Back from commercial, we get a Legado del Fantasma vignette where Santos Escobar has a plan to prove once and for all at Worlds Collid that they own the world of lucha libre and, for the first time in weeks, they seem like they’re on the same page.
Chad Gable is interviewed backstage.
He says he’s very confident about his match against El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship at Worlds Collide and he knows El Grande Americano is gonna win the Money in the Bank ladder match, too.
Andrade el Idolo rolls up and talks about Vikingo in Spanish and Gable just says “si” a bunch until Penta rolls up and they have their own little conversation until Chad blows up and tells them Americano’s gonna put them in their place. Bickering ensues and Nick Aldis appears to tell them they can settle it in the ring tonight.
Tiffany Stratton makes her entrance and gets on the mic.
She says she’s the girl of the moment and has been since she won Money in the Bank, so all the ladies in that match are gonna try to do the same, and they’re all championship material but it doesn’t matter who wins because their worlds will be revolving around her. No one can outdo the doer, because it’s Tiffy Time—
Enter Rhea Ripley.
She says she’s never been in the Money in the Bank ladder match but she’s never had to, but she does know what it feels like to be a champion, and she misses that feeling.
Stephanie Vaquer and Alexa Bliss make their entrance to send us to break.
Alexa Bliss, Rhea Ripley, & Stephanie Vaquer vs. Giulia, Naomi, & Roxanne Perez
Vaquer and Giulia to start, intense jockeying for position on the mat, trading pinfall attempts, waistlock, bridging pin but Stephanie can’t get it all the way in! Devil’s Kiss blocked, Beautiful Madness with a real honest-to-god PWG Curb Stomp! Tag to Naomi, Devil’s Kiss of her own countered into a pin, the match breaks down and Vaquer hits Devil’s Kiss while her partners keep Giulia and Roxanne occupied!
Naomi out to the floor, the Dark Angel chases out after her, brings her back in, but Naomi slingshots her into the ropes and slings her into the turnbuckles before putting boots to her! Perez tags in, keeping Stephanie on her toes, into the corner, quick tags and the heat segments roll on!
Tag to Bliss, clearing the apron, hesitation dropkick for Naomi and a cannonball senton follows to the floor! Perez throws Alexa into the steel steps and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Ripley with a hot tag, raising hell, fallaway slam on Perez, dropkick for Naomi, match breaks down, Riptide... COUNTERED INTO A WICKED DDT BY ROXANNE! Naomi drops off the apron, Perez finds herself alone and surrounded by babyfaces...
Alexa Bliss, Rhea Ripley, & Stephanie Vaquer win by pinfall with Riptide from Ripley.
JC Mateo is backstage chatting with Solo Sikoa, worried about whether Jacob Fatu is loyal. Solo reassures himself that he brought Fatu in and he’s not all that smart, all gas and no brains, and says he has it under control.
They leave and Jacob Fatu walks around the corner, clearly having heard all of that, to send us to break.
Back from commercial, a Wyatts video breaks into the feed.
Bo Dallas talks about how their loss has forged them into a family, unshaken by the storm, but again they wanted to forget about them and ignore their sacrifice.
#DIY are backstage with the tag division and they ask who provoked the Wyatts, but the Street Profits promote unity to deal with the Wyatts. Forget about the tag titles for a minute, they gotta show ‘em who the real boogeymen are around here. Fraxiom refuse to forget about the tag titles and Axiom wants to teach the Wyatts a lesson.
Motor City Machine Guns say they’re gonna put their issues with #DIY on the back burner and they’re gonna bring the fight to the Wyatts.
That leaves #DIY alone with Nick Aldis, who thanks them for their input after they tell him to let one of the other teams deal with the Wyatts.
Penta makes his entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we see El Hijo del Vikingo in the crowd.
Andrade el Idolo & Penta vs. Creed Brothers (Brutus & Julius Creed)
Luchadors dive on the Creeds during their entrance, throwing them inside, el Idolo and Brutus to start as we get a bell! Andrade passes Creed into the turnbuckles, Julius comes in and gets dropped! Corner double knees on Julius and then on Brutus! Penta in, the Creeds get the better of him, he throws chops on them, gets loose, front kick on Brutus!
Waistlock on Julius, tag to el Idolo, perching up top but a Poetry in Motion knee takes him out! Suplex, Julius puts the straps down and throws him around some more and sends us to break!
Back from commercial, Penta with a lungblower, Brutus breaks it up! Chad Gable gets involved trying to pull Penta’s mask off but El Hijo del Vikingo jumps the barricade and brawls Chad to the back! Match breaking down, all four men in the ring, back elbow for Julius, flip piledriver connects... IT’S OVER!
Andrade el Idolo & Penta win by pinfall with a flip piledriver from Penta on Julius Creed.
Post-match, Andrade puts Penta up on his shoulders and they celebrate.
Enter Seth Rollins and his pals.
They lay Andrade and Penta out, both of them eating Blackouts in turn! 747 Splash on Penta!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Seth Rollins and company are still in the ring, with Paul Heyman on the mic.
Heyman does some cheap heat and says they don’t fear the future because they are the future. Sit there and boo all you want, tomorrow night Seth Rollins becomes, once again, Mr. Money in the Bank.
Enter “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, right as Paul E was about to finish his schtick.
Rhodes squares up to Rollins—
Enter “Main Event” Jey Uso, sending us to break.
