Airbnb Unveils New Tech to Keep Party Animals in Check

Airbnb started in 2007, blowing up into the empire it is today. Not to mention a moneymaker for real estate investors that have become hosts over the years, with their earned income from the properties contributing to their mortgage. From cheaper options, to unique properties like Harry Potter-themed Airbnb‘s , the options seem endless.
With anything comes the good and the bad, and although the industry has served many well, both guests and hosts have their fair share of problems occasionally with the company. In anticipation of upcoming summer parties, with Memorial Day being the first test, and the 4th of July set to be next, Airbnb launched their anti-party technology for the fifth year in a row to keep things in check, after
“51,000 people were blocked or redirected from booking entire home listings in the United States over the Memorial Day and the Fourth of July weekends due to these defenses,”
back in 2024, according to Airbnb news .
The Company Aims To Keep Things Safe With Anti-Party Technology
With summer comes plenty of outdoor parties and barbecues, but Airbnb aims to promote “responsible and safe stays.” This will now be the fourth year that these plans are in place to prevent certain bookings from going through, looking to limit the risk of rowdy parties or disruptive get-togethers that have always been banned on Airbnb, according to the release from Airbnb.
The ban is to help keep the peace because many of these homes reside in local neighborhoods, and the company doesn’t want other neighbors to be disturbed, among other things that can occur if there are uncontrolled parties or damage to the property.
How Is Airbnb Monitoring These Bookings?
Airbnb‘s anti-party technology essentially looks for and prevents specific bookings that appear suspicious. For example, one or two-night bookings in an entire house.
“The system looks at a range of factors – including the type of listing being booked, the duration of the stay, the distance to the listing from the guest’s primary location and whether the booking is last minute – to determine whether a booking should be blocked,”
According to Airbnb.
“Guests who are prevented from booking an entire home will instead have the option to book alternative accommodations on Airbnb.”
With this in place, Airbnb had over 50,000 people denied from booking homes on the site over these two holidays.
“This included approximately 7750 people in Texas, 7400 people in Florida, and 7030 people in California,”
According to Airbnb. The company is really pushing responsible stays and travel, protecting the accommodations and the hosts.
There’s More, In Addition To Anti-Party Technology
Starting up the anti-party technology again will work together with Airbnb‘s global reservation screening technology, which is something that the booking system uses all year long to protect the host from risky bookings.
“Since 2020, when we introduced our global party ban policy, we’ve seen an over 50 percent decrease in the rate of party reports to us in the US. In 2024, fewer than approximately 0.06 percent of reservations on Airbnb in the US resulted in a report of a party,”
Airbnb said in a post.
Airbnb is doing their best to prevent disturbances for the neighborhood, whether that’s destructive gatherings, dangerous behavior, or excessive noise. Airbnb is working to put an end to these disturbances as much as they can using the neighborhood support line , the safety line , the free noise sensor for hosts , and more, in addition to the anti-party technology, and it certainly appears to be making a big difference so far.
